DAY 1 Welcome to magical Budapest. Warm greetings by the hosts, transfers to the hotel and settle into your accommodation. A guided city tour to Heroes Square, City Square ‘Városliget’ café & restaurant alongside the lake. Strolling along the Danube, sighting Parliament, the Margaret Bridge and Castle District. Free time to walk around and enjoy the sites, including Matthias Church and Fisherman’s Bastion following back across Elizabeth Bridge to your accommodation. Dinner at the hotel.
DAY 2 After breakfast we travel to Hollókő "Raven-stone", Palóc ethnographic village in Hungary and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Upon arrival you will be offered local savory and ‘pálinka’. Learn about the traditional weaving, folk art including costumes, songs and dances followed by a walking through the Old Town. Hungarian home-made lunch will be provided by local families. Journey continues to Mezőkövesd to Tard village. Learn how to do Matyó embroidery, make homemade pasta, jam and other crafts. Then short travel to the mysterious Eger.
DAY 3 Enjoy a beautiful sightseeing day in the baroque city of Eger. See the amazing Basilica, Ottoman-minaret and the Sports Museum. Lunch and a wine tasting are to follow in Ködmön Csárda at Szépasszonyvölgy (Pretty Lady’s Valley). In the afternoon visit the medieval Eger Castle. Free time at Dobó Square. Optional tour to City under the City or Turkish thermal baths. Buffet dinner will be provided in the hotel.
DAY 4 Travel from Eger to Transylvania (Romania). First stop at Nagyvárad - see the banks of the Körös - the local Paris, see the Black Eagle Palace , Saint Laszlo’s Square. Cross the Király-hágó (King Pass) to Körösfő where you can see the painted unique Calvinist church. Heading to Kolozsvár - join in memorial of the Trianon Treaty. Visit the Farkas Street the house where King Mátyás Hunyadi was born and the Bólyai University. Dinner and accommodation in Kolozsvár.
DAY 5 Day trip starts to a Torockó Basin (where the sun rises twice) a hidden gem right next to the Szekelyko mountains. The village is the oldest, best preserved and the most authentic architectural folk heritage in the Carpathian Basin. In the afternoon continue to Szováta well known for the Bear Lake which is unique to Europe for water being helio-thermal and salty. Settling in to your accommodation and treat yourself in one of this rejuvenating experience.
DAY 6 Morning trip to Parajd to visit the largest salt mine, then travel to Marosvásárhely, visit the Culture Palace, the Hall of Mirrors, Rose Square. Free time and walking tour in the town. You will then go to Erdőszentgyörgy and visit Klaudia Rédey’s memorial. Dinner and accommodation will be back in Szováta.
DAY 7 Breakfast in the hotel then travelling firstly to Korond - a half day program where you will ride in horse-drawn carts, visit an authentic ceramic workshop a market and chance to do shopping. Will continue to Farkaslaka to visit Áron Tamási’s childhood home and you will have the opportunity to see the Carpathian Basin’s first Treaty of Trianon memorial. A wreath also will be placed. In the late evening you will travel back to your accommodation to Szováta.
DAY 8 After breakfast you will travel to Transylvania’s most Hungarian town, Székelyudvarhely. Walking tour, including a visit to the statue park. Then a journey continues to Székelyderzs, where Székelyland world heritage site listed single-towered church is located. You will continue your travel onto Homoródfürdő, where you will participate in a mineral water tasting before travelling on to Hargita and Csíkszereda, where you will settle into your accommodation.
DAY 9 Start your day at the sacred Csíksomlyó Pilgrim Church, followed by Madéfalva where the Turul Bird statue can be seen. Continue to Gyergyószentmiklós, Gyilkos Tó (Red Lake) and Békásszoros, after which you will travel to Gyimes Valley, where a 1000 year old border, 30’s Guardhouse and the ruins of the Rákoczi Castle. Dinner will be at the Deáki Panzió with a musical Csángó program. Late in the evening you will travel back to your accommodation at Csíkszereda.
DAY 10 A morning visit to the Csíki Beer Brewery, where you can have unlimited beer tasting and lunch provided. Followed by visiting Tusnádfürdő spring valley and Vulcanic crater lake one of its kind in Romania. Continue to Szepsiszentgyörgy. Then Predeál which is the highest mountain resort town in Romania’s where your accommodation and dinner is waiting for you.
DAY11 Morning tour to the lovely Fogaras, located on the northern foothills of the majestic Fogaras mountains is the gate of the highest peaks in Romania where you enter the Fortress. Then we head to Nagyszeben, which was named Europe’s culture capital in 2007, followed by Déva, where you will visit the Magas-Déva Fortress then dinner and accommodation in the town.
DAY12 Our journey will be coming to an end with travel back to Budapest through the southern part of Hungary. Lunch on the way to Budapest then checking in to the accommodation and a farewell dinner.
