Volunteer for Royal Hobart Regatta 2021

The 2021 Royal Hobart Regatta is an amazing display of yachting, rowing, swimming, kayaking, dinghy racing, and fun on the River Derwent

About this Event

The Royal Hobart Regatta is an annual Regatta in Hobart to commemorate the discovery of Tasmania in 1642 by Abel Tasman. The first Regatta was under the patronage of Sir John Franklin - Lieutenant Governor of Van Dieman’s Land on 19th November 1838 by the citizens of Hobart Town with racing between local merchants and trading vessel crews. Admission, food and beer were free.

The Royal Hobart Regatta today is the largest aquatic event in the Southern Hemisphere with 30,000 to 40,000 people over 3 days, and approximately 15,000 there for the fireworks on Monday evening, with many others watching the fireworks from vantage points around the river and from boats on the Derwent.

Our website is the best place for you to get an idea of the scope of the Regatta.

The Royal Hobart Regatta has its own public holiday on the Monday and is held over 3 days:

Saturday is Kids and Family day. The second annual 2 bridges kayak race follows – a challenging 15km race to the Bowen Bridge and return. There’s a great activity and entertainment program, Makebelieve children's entertainment, performances from the Musical Theatre Crew and a full program of song, dance and kids’ entertainment, and water activities such as the greasy pole and kayak sprints.

Sunday is “People’s Day” starting with the Trans Derwent Swim, the spectacular Power Boats, keelboat racing for the prestigious Sir Thomas Lipton Cup, Regatta Ambassador, a full entertainment program followed by more keelboat racing close-up at 6pm with the twilight race starting directly in front of the Regatta Ground. Then launching into the evening’s concert program leading into the fireworks. Sideshows and rides continue into the evening. HMAS Choules is the flagship for 2021 (Subject to confirmation).

Monday starts with a great rowing program, culminating with the famous Denis Mounie Championship Eights. The day will feature a full program of come-and-try activities on the water around the Regatta foreshore, with sideshows and rides running all day, as well as a sailpast by Hobart's wooden boat fleet.

The Regatta committee, made up entirely of volunteers, works works all year to maintain the building and grounds within our resources, mainly through voluntary hours, and also to work towards the next year's Royal Hobart Regatta.

We hope that you will join us as a volunteer - we're certain we have activities for you that suit your interests
