About this Event
Saturday 7th November at 7am.
The starting point for this picturesque walk is Museum of Art and Culture Lake Macquarie (MAC), formerly known as Lake Macquarie Art Gallery. The walk follows the lake around Marmong Point to the start of the Lake Macquarie State Conservation Area. We then skirt around this bushland and follow fire trails behind the suburbs of Marmong Point Estate and Woodrising and walk through the old Fennel Bay quarry to make our way to the lakes edge at Fennel Bay.
From Fennel Bay we walk along foreshore reserve to Bolton Point Park for a morning tea break. The walk around Bolton Point is stunning with 180 degree views across the water taking in Coal Point to Valentine.
We leave the waterfront reserve at the tip of Bolton Point to head back into the bush in the Lake Macquarie State Conservation Area and complete our circumnavigation of Bolton Point by returning on the track taken by Stacey in her October Awaba Bay walk. Exiting the Conservation Area at Marmong Point we retrace our steps past the Marina back to MAC. There are options to have coffee in the café at MAC or take in the latest exhibition on our return.
The walk is 10km and is a grade 2 to 3. Allow about three hours. It includes some hills and walking is mostly across grass, fire trails and bush tracks. Expect tree roots and uneven ground.
